SCHC Receives $650,000 Grant to Expand Access to Care

SCHC Awarded $650,000 HRSA Grant to expand access to care

Sharon Community Health Center (SCHC) is proud to announce that we have been awarded $650,000 through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

SCHC is one of 158 health centers across the country selected to receive funding through HRSA’s New Access Point (NAP) grant program. The program supports the expansion of health centers and helps bring affordable, high-quality primary care to communities where access to healthcare is limited. The expansion is part of a larger national investment in community health centers. Through the NAP grant program, HRSA is supporting the creation of 415 new health center sites across the country, expanding access to primary care for nearly 1 million people.

For SCHC, this award represents an exciting opportunity to expand access to care for individuals and families across Western Pennsylvania and Northeast Ohio.

What the Award Means for SCHC

This award marks an important milestone for Sharon Community Health Center as we transition from a Federally Qualified Health Center Look-Alike to a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This designation provides additional federal resources and support that will strengthen our ability to provide high-quality, affordable care to underserved and underinsured patients. More importantly, it gives us the opportunity to build on the work we have been doing in our community for nearly 30 years and reach even more people who need access to care.

Expanding Care in Youngstown

SCHC has been serving the Shenango Valley since 1997. Our Sharon location currently provides medical care, behavioral health services, and pain management, with a focus on making quality healthcare accessible to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay.

The NAP award will support SCHC’s expansion into Youngstown, Ohio, with a new location planned to open this fall. The new Youngstown location is expected to offer medical care, behavioral health services, dental care and pharmacy services. This expansion will allow us to reach more individuals and families who may face barriers to accessing healthcare close to home.

“We are honored to be selected as a recipient of the HRSA NAP award. Our team and Board of Directors are committed to expanding access to high-quality healthcare across Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania. We look forward to opening our Youngstown location this fall and making a positive difference in the communities we serve, one patient at a time.”
